Performance Improvement
Performance improvement can take many forms and be applied across the range of life cycles of companies and market cycles.
We can help drive your company’s evolution—from inventory balance improvements for distribution businesses to segmenting your customer base to improve profitability—all with an eye towards maximizing enterprise value. Our diverse experience in complex and special situations provides us with the knowledge and perspective to identify opportunities in your business, including: revenue enhancement, process improvement, manufacturing optimization, supply chain management, go-to-market strategies, organizational effectiveness & efficiency, enterprise risk management, sourcing & procurement transformation, operations cost transformation, and capital structure optimization.
Strategic Planning
Because most executives have their hands full addressing short-term opportunities and issues, planning the next three to five years and beyond often gets slight attention, or none at all. Further, what a company needs to be doing years down the line informs today’s actions – for example, the IT infrastructure we build now should be able to grow into our future with maximum capabilities minimal disruption. We help clients take the long view – of markets, industries, geographies, technology, labor, commodities, etc. – and convert that strategy into tactics and tasks for today.
EBITDA Improvement
EBITDA drives value, and our team drives EBITDA growth. From strategic changes, like business model changes (from B-to-B to B-to-C, for example) and disintermediation plays, to tactical changes, like business development team buildout, SKU and customer rationalizations, automation, productivity improvement programs, compensation and incentive plans, manufacturing overhead & SGA reductions, our team can help you drive results throughout the P&L.
Cash Flow Maximization
Non-EBITDA cash flow items can be overlooked easily in an environment that is focused almost solely on P&L statements. We find that working capital is chronically undermanaged in most companies – getting to industry standards, especially top quartile standards, with accounts receivable collections, for example, can transform a business in ways executives did not think possible. For example, a $2b company we worked with had accounts receivable collections 20 days below industry average – collecting on time meant $100mm+ in additional annual cash flow, which can be used to reduce debt (and hence interest expense), invest in value-creating assets, etc.
Budgeting & Forecasting
We work with clients to create end-user-friendly models that not only allow for quick changes in assumptions, but also grow with our clients’ businesses. Rather than having one-off models that work well with the current situation only, we build automated toolkits that help guide decision-making for years to come.
Process Improvement
From streamlining receivables and payables procedures to plant layout optimization to continuous quality improvement initiation, we work with clients to design, test, and implement changes that maximize throughput and asset utilization, while minimizing waste and inefficiencies.
Supply Chain Optimization
Of particular relevance in this era of on-shoring and near-shoring, our team assists with network design and redesign, forecasting, inventory sourcing and planning, and supply chain risk management.
Capital Structure Optimization
The typical view of the optimal capital structure is the one that maximizes company value and minimizes capital costs. While this view may be correct for a point in time, remaining competitive and relevant in a fast-moving world requires flexibility. Sometimes the least expensive capital provides little in the way of flexibility, and may thus inhibit long-term value growth. We take a holistic view of capital structure, and determine which is best for the company’s long-term strategy, while allowing for adjustments along the way.
